How to build a strong real estate team by resolving conflicts

It’s not surprising to find people clash in a highly-charged and competitive environment such as the real estate industry.

Sometimes it becomes a challenge to organise a team with experienced agents who feel they are better than the other, but instead of making it an excuse make it a challenge to fix and resolve conflicts in order to build a strong and cohesive team.

Face the challenges by getting a grip on such issues and create a plan that involves effective communication, honesty, accountability, and actionable strategies so you can leverage your team to perform rather than cripple the team.

Understand the roots of conflict

It’s always difficult to make an effort to resolve conflicts without getting to the root cause of it. Regardless if it’s a personal or professional one, discussing each of your team member’s issues, challenges, and concerns could help you make sense of the problem and be able to resolve the conflict properly and judiciously.

Do not hesitate to ask for support when needed, since there will always be solutions to challenges and difficulties that come along the way.

Always be truthful and get real

One of man’s biggest challenges is admitting their own faults. This can be addressed by ensuring that each of your team members is aware of their accountabilities and provide a way for them to open up their insights regarding conflicts that are threatening the team.

Be firm in telling your team that integrity and honesty are always vital to any team. Ensure that these are values that your team must live by in order to foster camaraderie and cooperation.

Sometimes, the lack of communication is a major cause of conflicts. Remember that conflict resolution is not about equal opposing forces, but one that provides the means to extinguish the fire before it destroys everything.

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel

You could always revisit the past when you want to look for situations that helped strengthen your team. You can always make a conscious effort to use those strengths to resolve any conflict within the team.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel by thinking up new ways when you can simply go back and replicate what worked.

Perform and re-evaluate

Always remember to observe, learn, and re-assess your team’s weaknesses and strengths. Identify your strengths and make them work for your team. Determine your weaknesses and involve your team members to turn those weaknesses into opportunities for development and growth.

On a final note, real estate teams are always built on trust and relationships that need to be nurtured in order to grow and mature. When you start to see signs of a brewing conflict, make sure to find the means to have it resolved right away and you will be able to focus on how your team can beat the competition.
